Globeform @ Newmarket's July Meeting - section opens July 4

Golden Jubilee: Ground conditions a worry

Royal Ascot 18 June The rain falling over the Queen's racecourse is not good news for the connections of Golden Jubilee Stakes (G1) favourite, Godolphin's high-class performer Delegator. His is the most accomplished name on the list of 17 declared horses, but it could disappear from the list if the wet weather continues. The big sprint is quite open, and horses with soft ground form must have an advantage.

Hardwicke: Await The Dawn too good

Royal Ascot 18 June: This race has often been a stepping stone to the prestigious King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1), run over the same mile and a half trip here at Ascot in late July, and the Aidan O'Brien trained favourite Await The Dawn might put himself into the mix for that race if he performs as expected in the Hardwicke Stakes (G2) on the last day of the world's biggest racing feast.

King Edward VII: Ascot Derby draws classy field

Royal Ascot 17 June: Some of these will not have had quite the class to go for the Derby at Epsom earlier this month, while others will not quite have had the experience needed. Future talents are often revealed in the 12-furlong King Edward VII Stakes (G2) at the Royal meeting. Last year's winner Arctic Cosmos went on to land the St. Leger Stakes (G1) at the end of the season.

Coronation Stakes: 12-1 is too tempting

Royal Ascot 17 June: This is wide open, not at all similar to previous editions of the Coronation Stakes (G1), where we have so often had two or three big names to focus on. This year, we are presented with a 13-runner field where nine names are within 7lb of the top rated. That equals about 3,5 lengths and we could easily get an upset in the one-mile fillies' contest and a nice 12-1 shot seems the one to go with in this office. Too tempting!

Section opens on July 4.

Ribblesdale Stakes: Wide open contest

Royal Ascot 16 June: Often billed as the Ascot Oaks, the Ribblesdale Stakes (G2) has been won by some pretty smart ladies over the years, but coming to this race following a run in the Oaks proper at Epsom Downs a couple of weeks earlier has proved very difficult.

Normally, you are best off looking for a lightly raced filly that is improving, and taking the next step up in class before going into Group One company. There are plenty of qualifiers here, and it's a wide open race.
