Welcome to Globeform's comprehensive 2010 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Special - giving you the best previews, ratings, analyses, selections and betting plans for the big day at Longchamp on Sunday October 3.

Previews, newslines, best future / ante-post bets, plus the exclusive Globeform Arc Day Racecard will be posted in this section.

Short field likely, take each-way value now

Well over 100 names are still on the list of nominations to the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) but, after taking a closer look at this list and the status of the leading contenders, one thing seems clear; this year’s Arc field could come up quite short. Each-way punters should get their bets on now, before the bookmakers wake up to this fact – and start cutting these prices.

Click on for status on intended starters in the big race at Longchamp on October 3, and our two best value ‘ew’ bets to the championship event.

Arc contender: Planteur

PLANTEUR finished well - though failed to keep a straight line - when taking second to Behkabad in the Grand Prix de Paris (G1) at Longchamp in July, and there were good reasons to come away from that meeting feeling that he would be able to reverse the form.

Maybe one day he will but when the two colts squared off once more, in the Prix Niel (G2), Behkabad again proved the stronger.

Arc contender: Cape Blanco

CAPE BLANCO, like Fame And Glory representing Aidan O’Brien, is an intriguing Arc contender. He beat Workforce in the Dante Stakes (G2) at York in May, flopped in the Prix du Jockey Club (G1) at Chantilly, bounced back to form by winning the Irish Derby (G1) at The Curragh, then ran second – beaten 11 lengths – to Harbinger in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) at Ascot, before producing his best form to date with a front-running win in the Irish Champion Stakes (G1) at Leopardstown in September.

Arc contender: Sarafina

SARAFINA seemed to have her limitations exposed in the Prix Vermeille (G1) in September, when she checked in third, beaten 1 ¼ lengths behind Midday. Normally, if you can’t win the Vermeille, you most certainly can’t win the Arc. Take a look at the recordings again, however, before you write her off.

Arc contender: Workforce

WORKFORCE produced an exceptional performance, for such an inexperienced runner, when winning the Investec Derby (G1) by 7 lengths at Epsom in June. It was only his third career start, and he returned Globeform 128p as he trounced his rivals by 7 lengths and more. Then came an absolute flop in the 'King Goerge' at Ascot.

Can he bounce back to his best if lining up for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) at Longchamp?
