The Dixie: Parading looking good, but this is turf

Pimlico 16 May: Parading, who improved out of all recognition to take the Bel Ali Stakes (G2) by 7 lengths over the Polytrack at Keeneland last time out, tries to follow up in the The Dixie (G2) on Preakness day. Can he produce similar form on the lawn?

If he can, the six-year-old gelding will be among the leading players here, but the Dixie is a wide-open contest, a race where at least six of the thirteen runners hold a winning chance.

Preakness: Derby and Oaks winners set to clash

Pimlico 16 May: Mine That Bird may simply have been the best in a sub-standard renewal of the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Rachel Alexandra may have been towering over rivals running to no more than allowance level form in the Kentucky Oaks (G1), but their clash in the Preakness Stakes (G1) will be a piece of racing history and the second leg of the Triple Crown series really is a race worth looking forward to.

The Oaks heroine was coming off impressive wins in her prep races and she was long odds-on to win at Churchill Downs. The Derby winner, on the other hand, was coming off a fourth placed finish in the Sunland Derby, and his easy win over Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Pioneerof The Nile on the big day was a real shocker. After all, that race at Sunland Park was nothing much was it? Perhaps it was.
