Breeders’ Cup Distaff: This is wide, wide open

Monmouth Park 27 Oct: Six of the 14 runners are within five pounds on Globeform ratings. That equals about two and a half lengths only over this distance, and the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) should produce one of the most exciting finishes at Monmouth next Saturday. Ginger Punch has been the most consistent of these fillies and mares but in no way is she unbeatable, and to supplement her was a gamble. Albeit perhaps not such a big one. She should finish in the top three, but she is not our top rated runner.

Full preview analysis, with Globeform Ratings & rating profiles, selections, betting plan, now posted.

Breeders’ Cup Sprint: A display of speed

Monmouth Park 27 Oct: We lost one serious contender for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) when the Vosburgh winner Fabulous Strike dropped out – and another defected on Monday, when it was announced that the brilliant filly La Traviata will run in the Filly & Mare Sprint on Friday instead on taking up this challenge.

This is still quite a race, however. Quite evenly matched, this year’s Sprint should produce an explosive display of speed and a close finish. Smokey Stover, Midnight Lute and Idiot Proof will all take plenty of beating. Then we have this intriguing runner called Commentator. He often runs well fresh, and he has been rested for four months in preparation for this. Don’t write him off.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile: Speed meets stamina

Monmouth Park 27 Oct: War Pass has won all his three races and will almost certainly start favorite for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). Using his excellent tactical speed, the Nick Zito trainee had his opponents in deep trouble early in the straight in the Champagne Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. That was over a mile, however, and it was a one-turn race. Will he be as good over 1 1/16 miles around two turns? Or will a more stamina loaded colt like Tale of Ekati find him out in the closing stages?

Any chance or a real upset in this race then? Yes there is. Five or six of the others can improve enough to be in the top flight.

Full preview with Globeform Ratings, comments, anlysis and selections now posted.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies: Tricky race

Monmouth Park 27 Oct: This is probably the most difficult race to solve for the horseplayers. A full filed is expected, and the Bredeers’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) has at least seven legitimate contenders, plus a few others who would not be the “shock of the year” if ending up in the winners’ circle. Not at all.

Indian Blessing heads the betting market, followed by A to the Croft and Irish Smoke.

Latest... Cry and Catch Me has been ruled out.

War Pass in focus

Champagne Stakes (G1) winner, unbeaten in three starts, with a combine winning margin of 9 ľ lengths. Already a top class juvenile, and probably with more to come.

That’s the talented Nick Zito trainee War Pass in a nutshell. He had the one-mile championship event won well before passing the post at Belmont Park, where he defeated Pyro, Z Humor and Lantana Mob in style.

Next task; Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).

This feature is part of the Breeders' Cup Special.
