Globeform @ Arc Weekend '07

Welcome to Globeform's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Weekend Special, with previews, ratings, selections and betting plans to the main events at Longchamp on Sunday, plus selections to Group races on Saturday.

For the first time, this section is FREE to access, whil all of its contents will move to the Breeders' Cup Countdown Special from Monday October 8, as many of the runners in Paris will be B Cup contenders.

Mandesha in focus

Mandesha would have been one of the favourites in last year´s Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1), but her connections decided to win the Prix de l'Opera (G1) with her instead, and wait a year before having a crack at the big one.

Here we are. That year has passed, and on Sunday she will to battle with Authorizes, Dylan Thomas, Soldier Of Fortune and Zambezi Sun in Europe's principle middle distance race. Do not dismiss this filly. She loves this course, the distance too, and she has been trained with specifically for race, and one race only, this season.

Dylan Thomas in focus

Every dry and sunny day in Paris increase the chances for Dylan Thomas in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1). The English Derby winner Authorized may be the favourite, and he has beaten 'Dylan' once, but that was over 10.5 furlongs at York and this could be a altogether different race.

And the Irish trained colt can safely be described as 'the solid one'. He hammered a good field in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes (G1) and did what was required when dropped back down in trip in the Irish Champion Stakes (G1), a race he won also last year - beating Ouija Board no less.

Do you need more persuation before agreeing that 7-1 is a huge price for Ballydoyle's top older horse? Well, how about this; as opposed to the favourite, he is a proven shipper, and he has won a Group One at Longchamp already. He stays the trip, he likes the course, he will get his ground, he gets K Fallon on board. What more do you want? A pair of wings?

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe: Pace will make the race

Longchamp 7 Oct: The 2007 edition of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) will, as we suspected, be aided by pacemakers, supplied by Tam Ballydoyle. This means that we will get strongly run race on Sunday, and it will suit the horses at the head of the betting. The leading contenders, Derby (G1) winner Authorized, Irish Derby (G1) winner Soldier Of Fortune, King George & Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1) winner Dylan Thomas and Grand Prix de Paris (G1) winner Zambezi Sun will all be happy with a strong pace. And, despite Manduro’s absence, whoever comes out on top here deserves to be called a champion.

With Mandesha also in the field, this Arc is high on quality, and we can look forward to an exciting contest. Longshots Youmzain, second to Dylan Thomas at Ascot, and Saddex, representing Germany, are also likely to take up the challenge.

Full preview with selections and betting plan now posted, plus Globeform Annual essays.

Rio De La Plata in focus

Godolphin’s best juvenile, the impressive Vintage Stakes (G2) winner Rio De La Plata is one of the best youngster in Europe, and last time out he was a good second in the National Stakes (G1) in Ireland. On Sunday, the son of Rahy run in the Prix Jean Luc Lagardere (G1). This is how the colt was presented in our Euro Juvenile to Follow book - published on August 4.
