Globeform @ Royal Ascot 2007

Welcome to Globeform's comprehensive Royal Ascot Special Section.

This prestigious meeting has always been a good hunting ground for Globeform members, and this year we will start these pages off with horse bios, preview articles, analyses and ratings pages on June 11. In-depth race by race previews for all five days (24 hours in advance).

Golden Jubilee: Takeover on Target?

Royal Ascot Sat: The Australian sprinters are better than the Europeans. That we all know by now. What seems to have escaped most people, however, is the state of affairs in the sprint division in Europe. It is not good. Quite frankly, we do not have a proper sprint star. If there is one around, it must be a younger horses on the up. Asset could be the answer. He produced a really taking performance on his seasonal debut. His problem today could be the ground though. Any more rain and his chances are reduced.

So, can one go against the fast filly who won the King’s Stand Stakes (G2) in such style on opening day? Miss Andretti has been drawn well again and she will be hard to beat, if she reproduces the form. She is a worthy favourite. We can take a shot against her though.

Firstly, as there is always the danger of a ‘bounce’ when a runner comes back this quickly. Secondly, as she has never been run back in less than eleven days in Australia - and then she lost. And thirdly, because we can expect a big run from the battle hardened globetrotter Takeover Target. He was just ‘prepping’ on Tuesday.

Hardwicke Stakes: Scorpion penalised

Royal Ascot Sat: Scorpion is back to form after his Group One win at Epsom and he looks the one to beat in the 12-furlong Hardwicke Stakes (G2) on the final day of the royal meeting. Should he be such a very short priced favourite though? Probably not. Yes, he is the best horse in this field but he is also shouldering a 5lb penalty. Weight is a great leveller in horseracing and this race is much more open that the betting seems to suggest.

King Edward VII: Lucarno must be backed

Royal Ascot Friday: Lucarno, coming off a fourth place finish behind Authorized in the Vodafone Derby (G1) at Epsom, looks tremendous vale at 9-4 for the King Edward VII Stakes (G2).

Coronation Stakes: One stage, three stars

Royal Ascot Friday: Three brilliant fillies meet in the Coronation Stakes (G1), a prize Nannina took for Newmarket last year. The home team will be in deep trouble this time, however, as none of the three is trained in England. Ireland’s dual Guineas winner Finsceal Beo is just about hanging on to favouritism, ahead of the French filly Darjina, who just beat her in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (G1) at Longchamp in May. At first glance this may look like a pure rematch between the two, but examine the German raider Mi Emma’s form and you will soon realise that it’s is not. She is coming off a 9-length win in her domestic Guineas, where she beat a filly who went on to take the Oaks. By five lengths!
