| Prix du Jockey-Club: A wide open classic |
|
Chantilly Sunday: Twenty horses have been declared for the Prix du Jockey-Club (G1), run over its new distance, 2100 metres, on Sunday. And this really is a wide open affair, as the field consists mainly of lightly raced, unexposed runners.
Andre Fabre saddles three runners, the Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien runs two, and the English trainer John Gosden will also be double handed. Will the winner come from one of these powerful teams? Quite possibly. They all have strong contenders, most of them coming out of stakes races but a colt from another corner makes more appeal in this office.

| Globeform’s Derby Day selections |
|
As always the supporting card is filled with tricky handicaps on Derby day at Epsom, making it a day when one should bet selectively and to small stakes. The Diomed Stakes (G3) presents a very disappointing field – but also a good opportunity for Frankie Dettori to warm up with a win before he rides Authorized.
The Woodcote Stakes (LR) is more interesting, with some talented juveniles lining up for a 6-furlong dash. One name sticks out in this 13-runner field, and we have also found reasons to back a couple of horses that seem to be well treated by the handicappers.

| Coronation Cup: Sixties Icon looks best now |
|
Epsom 1 June: Twelve months ago, Sir Percy came with a strong, rail skimming run to steal the Vodafone Derby (G1) in the very last stride. It was a well deserved win but the form looked nothing special.
Back in seventh place was the little known colt Sixties Icon. He has become a great deal better since and, after a smooth win at Newmarket last month, he looks set to gain revenge on Sir Percy as they meet again in the Coronation Cup (G1) on Friday.

| Vodafone Oaks: Cecil runs two |
|
Epsom Downs 1 June: One swallow makes no summer but there is no denying that the name Passage Of Time has meant a big difference to Henry Cecil and his Warren Hill team. She was a fast improver at two, when signing off with a Group One win against colts in France. She came through her seasonal debut in satisfactory style when winning the Musidora Stakes (G2) at York, and she will go off favourite for the Vodafone Oaks (G1) on Friday.
Cecil runs two in this classic and his Cheshire Oaks (LR) winner Light Shift is also in with a good chance. Dalvina, so impressive in the Pretty Polly Stakes (LR), may prove too good for both, however, in what is quite an open race. Others are close up on ratings, some with every right to improve.

| Vodafone Derby: Authorized in pole position |
|
Epsom Downs 2 June: The field for the premier classic in Europe is taking shape, and the Vodafone Derby (G1) looks like getting an interesting field - possibly with eight runners from Ballydoyle.
Authorized, who produced an impressive Globeform 116++ when winning the Dante Stakes (G2) at York, heads the ratings, and he will be very hard to beat. Still, Aidan O’Brien’s top rated contender, the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial (G2) winner Archipenko, is not far off the favourite on our figures. Both these colts are at an early stage of their careers, as is the Lingfield Derby Trial (G3) winner Aqaleem.
In-depth analysis, selections and betting plans now posted.
