Globeform @ Gulfstream Park 2007

Welcome to Globeform's Gulfstream Park Section 2007, with coverage of the winter / spring meeting at the Florida venue. We also offer a Santa Anita Special.

Please note that all triple crown trail races will be posted in our seperate US Triple Crown section, also those staged at Gulfstream and Santa Anita.

GP Handicap: Corinthian looks way too good

Gulfstream Park 3 Mar: This colt is a sure thing. The favorite for the Gulfstream Park Handicap (G2) will probably also be the shortest prices stakes fav of the day.

Corinthian, who was first past the post in the Fountain of Youth (G2) twelve months ago and made such aim impressive comeback here in February, will almost certainly crush his five rivals in this contest. Still, if you fancy a bet, there may be good money to be made in the exacta, trifecta and superfecta pools.

GP B Cup Turf: Honey Ryder meets Einstein

Gulfstream Park 24 Feb: Last year’s winner, the Brazilian import Einstein is set to clash with top turf mare Honey Ryder as he attempts back-to-back wins in the Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1). While she has not been in action since running third to Ouija Board at the Breeders’ Cup in November, Einstein has had one prep for this. But prior to running fourth over a mile here last month, he had been on an even longer break. Is he sharp enough to repeat last year’s form? And, perhaps more importantly, is he good enough to give five pounds to Honey Ryder?

Nine others take up the challenge. Five of them ran up to their best form last time out.

Corinthian humiliates Jazil!

Last year's winner of the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2), Corinthian, simply humiliated the Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Jazil as he quickened right away from the classic winner at the top of the lane and beat him by a wide margin an allowance race at Gulfstream Park Thursday.

Invasor wins despite trouble, beat little

Invasor ran into all sorts of trouble when making a big move on the inside around the final bend of the Donn Hcap (G1), but when he found racing room, his class told. The son of Candy Stripes shot through for an easy win over Hesanoldsalt, with A.P. Arrow third. The Kiaran McLaughlin trained champion looked high class again, though the race was not particularly good. The winning time was 1:48.43.

’’We want ten furlongs, and we are looking forward to a rematch with Discreet Cat in the Dubai World Cup’’, the winning trainer said, ‘’it will be level weights this time – last year we had to give ten pounds to Invasor, and he was not quite the same horse then. He is better now’’.

With Grade 2 / 3 horses in second and third, the third placed even racing with four pounds overweight, this was a rather bloodless victory – but we could all see one thing; Invasor has retained all his enthusiasm for the game. That’s the most important thing. Dubai next!

Deputy Minister: Close five-runner sprint

Gulfstream Park 3 Feb: Only five go to post but Globeform ratings show that you can only discount one. It is a tricky contest, the Deputy Minister Handicap (G3), staged over 6.5 furlongs on the main track. If Kelly’s Landing runs as well as he did to win the Mr Prospector (G3), then he will win it . Probably. If Sir Greeley, so game against Chatain in the Hal’s Hope (G3), runs to his best he can win it. Probably. If the 4-year-old Keyed Entry can regain his career best form he could win it. Possibly. Then we have High Finance, who closed well when second in the Mr Prospector. If he keeps on like that for the extra sixteenth of a mile, he might win it. Perhaps.
