LUCARNO finished fourth in the Derby, beaten only by Authorized, Eagle Mountain and Aqaleem. He had Salford Mill (6th) and Yellowstone (8th) behing, and there is no reason to doubt that he will beat them again here. In fact, being by far the most likely big improver, he could beat them by further at Ascot. He is one of the best 3-year-olds in Europe, he is improving, his trainer John Gosden and rider Jimmy Fortune are both flying this week, and at around 9-4 this colt must be backed. He ought to be even money.
This is a very attractive son of Dynaformer. He caught the eye in the paddock before his run at Newmarket just a week prior to Epsom, and confirmed the impression out on the track – where he outclassed a decent field and produced Globeform 111+. That is a high rating for a horse with so little experience, and he moved up again at Epsom, where he returned GF 114+. He led from start to finish in the 10-furlong Fairway Stakes (LR) at Newmarket and ran on strongly to beat Supersonic Dave by 3 ½ lengths, with Hearthstead Maison 1 ¼ lengths further adrift in third. The last named had been beaten 4 lengths when second to Derby third Aqaleem at Lingfield on his previous start.
A: 6 LUCARNO
B: 7 SALFORD MILL
C: 9 YELLOWSTONE
WIN 6 Lucarno
