The Chick Lang: Comedero meets Invader
by Globeform Webmaster / globeform.com
Printer-friendly version

Pimlico Saturday:

Only six three-year-olds are set to go to post for the Chick Lang Stakes (G3), but with the impressive Charles Town winner Comedero meeting Santa Anita shipper Quiet Invader this could still be a fascinating sprint.

Pimlico 15 May 2010 – 6 furlongs dirt

Top ranked horse on 100, with others ranked down
in pounds. One length equals about 3lb over this distance.

100 – COMEDERO (Posse) GF 113p / R Albarado
..97 – QUIET INVADER (Songandaprayer) GF 102p / M Garcia
...? – CHARLES RUSSEL (More Than Ready) GF ?p / S Russell
..89 – GARY D (Successful Appeal) GF 96p / G Gomez
..78 – KENS CAPE (Cape Town) GF 85 / E Rodriguez
...? – LATOGO SHORE (Malibu Moon) GF ?p / M Smith

is hard to oppose after his two recent wide margin wins in smaller stakes races. He cruised home by 10 lengths wen a 1/10 shot in the Rainbow Stakes at Oaklawn Park, and stepped up in class to take the Blue N Gold Stakes at Charles Town by 9 lengths from Toboggan Slide (with Kens Cape well beaten in fourth). This will be another step up for Mike Stidham’s sharp gelding, but he only has five to beat, he has both speed and a bit of stamina, and he will be tough to beat.

Quiet Invader, probably not named after his trainer Bob Baffert, is the most likely threat to the favorite. He has won twice in California, taking a 6-furlong maiden at Hollywood Park last December and an allowance race over 6.5 furlongs at Santa Anita in March - holding the fast finishing Lions Story by a nose after having been part of a sharp early speed. The subsequent Derby Trial winner Hurricane Ike was third. That looked solid form at the time but Lions Story has been beaten twice in similar company since, so the picture is a bit confusing. Either way, Santa Anita form must be respected.
